The "Liechtensteinklamm"
|
|
A roaring waterfall,
boulders covered in dark green moss, a history shrouded in
legend, rainbows wherever the sun touches the fine mist in
the air…
These are some of the things you will find in the
Liechtensteinklamm gorge (or “Klamm”, for short),
located near St. Johann in the heart of Salzburg. It is not
only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the deepest,
longest gorges in the Alps.
For thousands of years the roaring falls and raging river
have been cutting their path through the rock. In some parts
the sheer walls of the gorge are so tall and so close
together that the sky appears as nothing more than a narrow
strip of blue high above the visitor.
|
|
|
As early as 1875,
people were so taken by this natural wonder that bridges and
catwalks were built with money donated by Prince
Liechtenstein II to make the Klamm accessible to the public.
|
|
|
|
Around 7 million
people from all over the world have visited the
legendary
Liechtensteinklamm thus far.
|
|
|
It’s rare for a
visitor to remain unaffected by the gorge’s powerful
atmosphere and the eerie, almost ghostly play of shadow and
light within the deep, narrow gorge.

Bridal
Veil Falls
|
At noon, the sun
penetrates the canyon walls and hits the fine mist coming
off Bridal Veil Falls, treating the visitor to an
enchanting, rainbow-hued visual spectacle.
